USA Spec A Model-   Have fitted shorter Z bars and correct cables and fitted UK Z model  speedometer which reads up to 140 mph instead of 85 mph. All original American parts have been retained and stored.

The bike was bought 3 weeks ago (26.10.10) and was running like a bag of hammers when i bought it - but otherwise in original unmolested condition.  It has been at Rising Sun Restorations near York where John Wyatt has been carrying out Phase 1 of my aim to get it in perfect nick. The man is a Genius and after 3 weeks work it is now looking and sounding like a SIX should- He reckons it is one of the sweetest CBX engines he has worked on.

Phase 1- (Completed)  This was to get the bike up to a very good presentable standard both mechanically and cosmetically.  Bike had been a bit neglected by previous owner but nothing major- examples of this were broken tacho drive, carbs hadnt been balanced, oil leak from cam chain adjuster., both side panels damaged etc. etc.

Cost To Date- £2600

Phase2- Will be to get tank and body parts re painted to original high standard.

Estimate Cost £500

Phase3- Complete strip down next winter . Frame to be powder coated and all parts to be cleaned and restored to get the bike into A1 Concours condition.

Estimate Cost -Unknown

No unsolveable problems to date - My thinking was to get the bike to an expert and have it assessed and any repairs done professionally .

The biggest problem we had initially was to fix all the bodges and short cuts carried out by the previous keeper and sourcing parts .A lot of the money was spent on things like chain, tyres, spark unit ,brake discs and of course about 50 hours labour costs.

Anyway - To All You UK CBXers out there i would highly recommend John and Phil at Rising Sun Restorations near York- true gentlemen and experts on the CBX (John recently featured in an article in Classic Bike entitled " CBX Made Simple "
