In Memory of Geoff

In my garage sits Geoffs 1982 CBX. In spirit it is Geoffs, legally it is now mine. I guess that is all relative.
I never really knew what a CBX was until two years ago when Geoffs wife called me and asked if I would please come and pick it up out of her garage. I could tell it had been eating on her. I agreed to make the drive and pick it up. I didnt know what condition it was in, but she said it would need some work. I drug my feet a bit when it came to getting the CBX as I really wasnt sure if she was ready to let it go, and the fact that I really didnt have the money to fix it up. After several more calls asking me to please come and get it I made the arrangements. I also let my fingers do some searching on the web to see what I was getting into. I was pleasantly surprised.
The bike was a bit dusty and the seat was torn... there were other minor mechanical issues like the brakes and the fact that it hadnt been started in nearly five years, but overall the CBX looked like I might be able to do somthing with it. And so I drug it the 300 and some miles from her house to my dads shop. This is where Geoffs pride and joy sat for about two months after I received it.
Dad had a battery sitting on the shelf of his shop that he had just bought and it was the perfect match for the CBX.... so one night he and I were messing around and I saw the old bike sitting there and decided to tinker a bit. I put the battery in and turned the key and presto ... all the lights worked. I had already checked the oil and so I thought what the heck... I hit the starter... it was at that moment that I knew Geoff was right there with us.... after five years of just sitting the CBX made that wonderful Ferrari sound of the exhaust. No tune up no adjusting anything... it just sat there and sounded cool!!!! I was hooked..
I have since put a lot of hours of cleaning and waxing and polishing Geoffs pride and joy!! No its not perfect, its darn nice though. Since I received my chance to care for this wonderful masterpiece of machinery I have ridden it about 10,000 miles.. thats just since last year... its got some miles on it... but it runs sooo goood!! and I know Geoff has ridden right along with me over the past year... I hope I have made his spirit smile... Brian
Geoff Ramseth was the victim of a brutal murder in the Seattle area . He left behind a wife and three children. Geoff was an avid soccer player and a wonderful dad to his kids. His wife and I grew up together just north of Spokane and I had the pleasure of knowing him through her. I cant say I knew him well but I knew him enough to say he was person we could all look up to. His wife knew that I have a love for motorcycles and that I love to tinker. I worked for Honda in the early eighties and ironically never knew what a CBX was... I know now....!!!
